Channeling Hunter

The state of American politics right now, is all but a clusterfuck. Crude? Maybe.True? You cannot deny it, the whole world is watching. From the beginning, up until now, I can hardly believe this is playing out before my eyes! History will have much to say, and as long as the textbooks aren't coming out of Texas, not written and edited by these goddamned uber-conservative and mentally deranged religious zealots, there's a shot it might have some truth in it.

Granted this is coming from someone who has probably lived the majority of their life outside of mainstream thought, belief, style, opinion, sense of humor...the list is long. My 'bias' as those on the opposite of the pendulum path would smugly assert, is my worldview. Many of my opinions are shared by those whom I admire, scholars, educators, artists, visionaries--people who look at information and events with a critical eye, a compassionate heart, and a logical mind.

Specifically, I long to hear what Hunter S. Thompson would have to say about this circus-comedy-drama-tragedy. For the longest stretch, I counted on Jon Stewart, Stephen Colbert, and Lewis Black for scathing political commentary and 50% of that is my own laziness, simply not having to say it myself. Surely Hunter would hilariously point out the obvious absurdity, accuse many of us as walking fly-catchers with our mouths constantly agape, but He might also provide certain levels of comfort, assuring us we aren't the crazy ones. Politics were of great importance to him, as it is a popular topic among the think-types, but this shit might have spurred a younger version of him into a realm of unseen depravity--possibly driving him to suicide if he hadn't already done it a little over 11 years ago.

Without waving a loaded pistol around in my kitchen, I find other ways to express my disgruntlement, snarky facebook posts and tweets. Marches, protests, and campaign rallies--there's a revolution at hand, but where am I? Talking shit on-line. Even then, it's not too loud--barely a whisper, everyone I know and love watches Fox News. My spine melts like mercury every time I think about. These bastards helped to create this mess, and they have the audacity to marvel at the rise of the Orange Monster with the T-Rex hands. Novel.
