Wandering thru Googleland the other night, I ran across a blog that was called "FEMALE MISOGYNIST"--holy hell. At first, it angered me, then anger turned to sadness as I read on to find why she calls herself so. A few points struck me, and not sure which order it was. One, she experienced sexual harassment as a girl in school and says the teacher giggled and turned the other cheek. I would not deny this happened nor defend the teacher, but it struck me as odd that she was not particularly (if at all) upset toward the aggressor(s), only the one who should have protected her. FM was not angered that these boys disrespected her, she was angry the teacher did not take her harassment seriously. In my opinion, it could be the fact that we live in a misogynistic society that this was allowed on all fronts! Humor me for a moment and take my previous opinion as fact to prove a point:
Wouldn't the incident speak volumes for the fact that these boys were displaying misogynistic behavior? They were probably not instructed by their parents or any particular form of socializing, but are well aware of society's general and underlying attitude that it's okay to treat girls badly because they are a thing to be hated, feared, second-class, etc.? And as for the teacher ignoring it, I feel that too is a form of acceptance that we live in a misogynistic society and that 'boys will be boys'? Furthermore, why didn't she go to the principal? Did she feel because she was a girl her claims wouldn't be taken seriously or she may suffer a backlash by the boys for getting them in trouble? It seems that the thing she feared as a child are the things she is promoting as an adult.
She speaks of a mother who neglected her, partly because her mother was a 'feminist'. I don't know her mother, but I feel it's safe to say if her mother was a horrible example of one, she didn't need a feminist flag to live under in order to do so--the planet is full of bad parents. I'm sure if you did some research, statistics would show that the majority of bad parenting was done by the male sex and not the female, but undoubtedly, I'm sure that FM's excuse for a male being a bad parent would be directly related to, and at the fault of, HIS mother. I don't know of the horrific childhood she may have had, or the trauma she experienced, but I remember there was NO mention of the father. Was he around? Did he compensate for the lack of mother? Was he supportive? Where were his balls? Why didn't he leave the neglecting mother and take his child with him?
She hates feminists, she thinks women should stay at home, out of the work force, partly because FM thinks women are intellectually inferior to men. She goes on to say that in her research, she has yet to find evidence of female geniuses, because it has always been men that have contributed to all thought, inventions, etc. This leads me to believe she has never read, "A Room of One's Own." For those who have never read it, it's the story of the imaginary Judith Shakespeare; a fictitious story detailing her life and how it would have turned out had she been just as talented, gifted, and intellectual as her brother William. She would not have been allowed any of the opportunities her brother had because she would have been married at thirteen birthing children to a husband she didn't love, and eventually going completely mad for the simple fact that she was born a woman and suffered through a 'woman's lot in life' never able to cultivate or share her passion and ability for play writing. Maybe you (FM) can't find evidence of the contributions of our half of the species is because for centuries, they've been tending to their families, doing the very thing you say women should do, then turn right around and belittle them for it.
The Female Misogynist addresses further hatred for women as she gives details of how women have repeatedly let her down. I forgot to mention, in the bewilderment of contradictions, she's a lesbian. She says women have lied, cheated, mistreated, and disappointed her as long as she can remember. Again, I am not defending those who have done her wrong, but if you look at the way we are socialized, as girls, we're supposed to be nice to everyone, not make any waves, and this, in my humble opinion is one the reasons why so many women are 'sneakier' if you will, in their dealings with other people--it's not as socially acceptable to come right out and say what we feel, so we often use under-handed tactics, whereas, BOYS WILL BE BOYS, and anything they do seems to be understood and contributed to the way they are naturally, therefore making whatever it is, okay. I would assume if her childhood was so jacked up, she has problems with many relationships, being a lesbian when homosexuality has yet to be accepted fully must contribute to this as well.
In summary, I find it saddening that she promotes a belief and holds strong attitudes towards the very thing that allowed the circumstances to occur as they did, and she's very proud of it, making a mockery of herself. If you look at the psychological roots of misogyny in men, it is directly related to their delicate egos--they feel the need to have power over women because a woman had 'power' over them growing up. Enlightened people aren't controlled by their egos, nor do they lump everyone into one generalized group, label and stereotype them. FM is obviously very intelligent, she is a wonderful writer, and obviously more dedicated than I am. I'm not going to dedicate an entire blog to any kind of hatred. Many have called me a man-hater, not true. I just want them to stop hating us. 'Them' being misogynists, male or female.
