No Rest for the Wicked, No Tolerance for the Stoopid
Social networking sites can be a fun and easy way to keep up with the people you love and the many interests you like...and then, there's the idiots. A status update from a friend made a comment about Japan not being able to catch a break in the wake of the recent catastrophe, and one of her friends commented something to the effect of 'maybe God is trying to tell us something and he really wants us to listen'--REALLY?!?! The creator just devastated a region in order to get your attention? Lives were taken so that your life may be enriched in some way? REALLY?!?! I would hope that if God were attempting to communicate with her, or any number of people--the chosen method would be something far different than shifting Tectonic plates or stimulating volcanic activity, causing an earthquake, thus causing a tsunami, killing thousands of people, destroying the landscape, trapping survivors, knocking out power, possibly causing a meltdown in a nuclear plant--so that she and many like her can get some sort of instruction, advice, or guidance from the almighty. That's grand! I know people have a hard time trying to make sense of things like this, even with the tiny details of everyday life--many of us do any number of things to make the pieces fit, but to think that the creator, (according to the myth of her belief, not mine)--the one that brought life to this planet, destroys parts of it, in hopes that you'll pull your head out of your ass and do something different than you're currently doing. Fascinating. Maybe the message is this--the Earth is a living entity. We need it, it does not need us. Live simpler lives (so that we do not have to poison the planet or each other to make energy). And take care of one another, as we are all in this together--even the stoopid ones.
